Notes

The 1980-81 Detroit Pistons season was a year of transition under new head coach Scotty Robertson and general manager Jack McCloskey. While the team finished with a 21-61 record, they showcased individual talent with guard John Long leading the scoring at 17.7 points per game and center Kent Benson contributing 15.7 points and 6.8 rebounds nightly. Terry Tyler also emerged as a versatile force, appearing in all 82 games and leading the team in blocks. This developmental period ultimately allowed the franchise to secure the second overall pick in the upcoming draft, which they used to select future Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas and lay the groundwork for their future success.
