Extremely rare away shirt as worn in seasons where the side were promoted from the Second Division in 1988-89, finishing 2nd under manager Mel Machin and then managed a 14th place finish in the First Division, level on points with cross-town rivals Manchester United as Mel Machin was replaced by Howard Kendall in December 1989. The 1989-90 season is fondly remembered by City fans for the 5-1 demolition of United at Maine Road
