The 1988 Buffalo Bills enjoyed a historic breakthrough season, finishing with a 12-4 record and capturing their first AFC East title in eight years. Led by head coach Marv Levy and a high-powered offense featuring Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, and Andre Reed, the team remained undefeated at home and showcased a dominant defense anchored by Bruce Smith and Cornelius Bennett. The season was highlighted by a nine-game winning streak and a 17-10 divisional playoff victory over the Houston Oilers, marking the franchise's first postseason win since the AFL-NFL merger.
