The 1990-91 campaign delivered a strong runner-up finish for Liverpool as The Reds secured a record 10th consecutive top-two league placement. The season, however, was tragically defined by the shock mid-season resignation of manager Kenny Dalglish and the club's ultimate failure to clinch the First Division title, despite a phenomenal start that included eight straight league wins and a famous 4-0 demolition of rivals Manchester United at Anfield. Leading the attack with 16 league goals each were the brilliant duo of Ian Rush and John Barnes, in a year that unfortunately marked the end of Liverpool's long-standing league dominance and the start of a 30-year wait for the top-flight crown.
