Notes

The 1990-91 campaign delivered a turbulent season of deep disappointment for Aston Villa as The Villans slumped to a precarious 17th-place finish in the First Division, dramatically falling from runners-up the season before. The year was marked by the departure of manager Graham Taylor, with his replacement Jozef Vengloš struggling to find consistency amidst the post-success turmoil. Leading the charge was their talismanic midfielder David Platt, whose phenomenal 24 goals across all competitions proved decisive in a campaign built on inconsistency and a defensive struggle. It was a turbulent year that saw the club's European adventure end in the UEFA Cup Second Round against Inter Milan and remains a defining chapter of instability.. The 1991-92 campaign delivered a significant improvement for Aston Villa as The Villans finished a respectable 7th in the final season of the First Division, marking the start of the 'Big Ron' Atkinson era. Leading the charge was the emerging Trinidadian star Dwight Yorke, whose 11 league goals proved vital in a campaign built on a refreshed squad featuring new signings Dalian Atkinson and Ugo Ehiogu. It was a transitional year that secured a comfortable league position and provided the crucial foundation for their memorable title challenge in the first Premier League season.
