The New Jersey Devils enjoyed a successful 1990-91 season, finishing fourth in the Patrick Division with a 32-33-15 record and returning to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Under head coach Tom McVie, the team featured a balanced offensive attack led by John MacLean, who topped the club with 45 goals and 78 points, and Kirk Muller, who contributed 70 points. The season was also highlighted by the continued excellence of defenseman Scott Stevens and the steady presence of Chris Terreri in goal. The Devils showcased their resilience in a thrilling seven-game opening-round playoff series against the eventual champion Pittsburgh Penguins, pushing the series to the limit.
