The 1995-96 campaign delivered a dramatic but ultimately unsuccessful return to the top flight for Bolton Wanderers. The Trotters, in their first-ever season in the FA Premier League after a 15-year absence, finished a crushing 20th and were immediately relegated. Leading the fight was the veteran striker John McGinlay, whose 6 league goals proved crucial in a campaign built on hope and a mid-season managerial change from Roy McFarland to Colin Todd. Despite their improved form under Todd, which tragically was not enough to prevent the drop, the season remains a frustrating yet defining chapter in the club's modern history as they battled valiantly for Premier League status at Burnden Park.
