Notes

The 1997-98 campaign was a season of promise and ultimate frustration for Liverpool as The Reds finished a distant 3rd in the Premier League under Roy Evans. The season was truly defined by the sensational emergence of 18-year-old striker Michael Owen, who, stepping in for the injured Robbie Fowler, scored 18 league goals to share the Premier League Golden Boot. Despite an early season title challenge that dramatically faded due to a crippling mid-season slump and disappointing cup exits, Owen's stunning pace and composed finishing proved the decisive bright spot, cementing his status as a national star and marking the beginning of an electrifying new era for the club.
