Notes

The 1996-97 campaign delivered a devastating end for Sevilla as Los Nervionenses finished a crushing 20th in La Liga, resulting in a painful relegation to the Segunda División as the league reduced its size from 22 teams. Amidst the chaos and defensive struggles, the young forward Salva Ballesta emerged as a rare, bright spark, whose 13 crucial goals proved vital in a desperate fight for survival. This turbulent year, which featured established talents like the Argentine Matías Almeyda and the Croatian Robert Prosinečki, marked an uncomfortable chapter for the club and a true low point before their modern resurgence.
