The 1996-97 campaign delivered a glorious return to silverware for Leicester City as the Foxes, led by Martin O'Neill, finished a highly respectable 9th in the Premier League. The season was capped by a dramatic League Cup triumph, with cult hero Steve Claridge scoring the extra-time winner in the final replay against Middlesbrough to secure the club’s first major trophy in 33 years and a coveted spot in the UEFA Cup. This defining year was a testament to the team’s grit and successful top-flight consolidation.
