The tournament was held in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte to commemorate its 100th year of foundation, and took part by eight teams: América Futebol Clube, Corinthians, Atlético Mineiro, AC Milan, Cruzeiro, Benfica, Olimpia, and Flamengo. The tournament ended up being a public and financial failure, which led to the event's organiser, Minas Gerais Football Federation, going into a severe financial crisis.
