Notes

The 1997-98 campaign was a season of consolidation and promise for Empoli as the Azzurri finished a respectable 12th in Serie A, comfortably securing their top-flight status. Leading the charge was the prolific centre-forward Carmine Esposito, whose 14 goals set a new club record for goals in a single Serie A season and proved vital in the successful campaign. Under the guidance of manager Luciano Spalletti, the team delivered a standout season, culminating in a memorable 4-1 victory over title-challenging Inter Milan on the final day. It was a crucial year that cemented Empoli's place among the Italian elite and remains a proud chapter in the club's modern history.
