Notes

The 1997-98 campaign marked a powerful return to the French elite for Olympique Marseille as OM, under the guidance of manager Rolland Courbis, secured a crucial 4th-place finish in Division 1, ensuring qualification for the UEFA Cup. Leading the charge was the legendary defender Laurent Blanc, whose 14 goals across all competitions made him the team's top scorer. The season, which featured the arrival of stars like Claude Makélélé and Fabrizio Ravanelli, saw the team mount a genuine title challenge before a challenging late-season run. A standout highlight was a memorable 2-1 victory over rivals Paris Saint-Germain, cementing a vital year in the club's resurgence as a major force in French football.
