Notes

The 1998-99 campaign saw Borussia Dortmund secure a crucial 4th-place finish in the Bundesliga under manager Michael Skibbe. This strong result delivered a coveted spot in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds, signaling Die Schwarzgelben's return to the European elite. Spearheading the attack was the ever-reliable veteran forward Stéphane Chapuisat, whose 8 goals were vital for the side. The season, marked by the mid-season departure of goalkeeper Stefan Klos, saw the team successfully consolidate their position in the top-four and was built on the foundation of experienced stars like Jürgen Kohler, Stefan Reuter, and Andreas Möller. It was a determined year that marked a successful push back toward the top of the table.. The 1999-00 campaign was a dramatic and turbulent season for Borussia Dortmund as Die Schwarzgelben finished a hard-fought 11th in the Bundesliga. Despite briefly topping the table early on, a brutal 16-game winless run saw the club plummet toward the relegation zone, leading to a tumultuous period with three different managers. Veteran coach Udo Lattek came out of retirement for the final five matches and made a heroic return to save the club, securing their top-flight status with five points to spare. Leading the line in this chaotic period was striker Fredi Bobic, whose 7 league goals proved a vital contribution, in a year also marked by a run to the UEFA Cup Fourth Round.
