Notes

The 1999 Detroit Lions season was marked by resilience and a return to the postseason, finishing with an 8-8 record and securing a wild-card berth. Despite the sudden retirement of legendary running back Barry Sanders, the team started strong with a 6-2 record, highlighted by a victory over the eventual Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams. This successful campaign represented the franchise's sixth playoff appearance of the decade, capping one of the most consistent ten-year stretches in the team's history. The 2000 Detroit Lions season featured several individual milestones despite a 9-7 record. Running back James Stewart led the offense with 1,184 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, while the defense was anchored by Pro Bowl linebacker Stephen Boyd. Under the leadership of head coaches Bobby Ross and Gary Moeller, the team remained competitive throughout the year, highlighted by a dominant 34-9 Thanksgiving Day victory over the New England Patriots. The Detroit Lions began the 2000s with a winning 9-7 record in 2000, capping their most successful decade in franchise history. While the team faced rebuilding challenges throughout the rest of the decade, they featured standout performers like kicker Jason Hanson, the NFL's all-time scoring leader, and draft picks like Calvin Johnson who would become legendary franchise icons.
