Notes

Away shirt as worn in the season City secured back to back promotions to return to the Premier League after a five year absence. After winning a thrilling play-off final the previous year, they earned a 2nd place finish. Manager Joe Royle had Maine Road feeling like a fortress with results including the 6-0 win over Sheffield United and putting four past Crewe, Fulham and Portsmouth
