Notes

The 1999-00 campaign was a chaotic season of near-disaster and European contrast for Olympique Marseille, as L'OM finished a precarious 15th in Division 1, narrowly avoiding relegation only by goal difference in a tight league. Despite the turmoil and three different managers, the club enjoyed a run to the Champions League Second Group Phase, highlighted by Ibrahima Bakayoko's memorable goal against Manchester United. Leading the league scoring chart for the side were the joint-top scorers, Bakayoko and Florian Maurice, both netting 8 goals apiece, a crucial contribution in a turbulent year defined by high player turnover and a desperate fight to maintain their top-flight status. It remains a deeply stressful but defining chapter of survival for the club.
