Despite boasting a talented side that contained the likes of Hernan Crespo, Ariel Ortega, Lilian Thuram, Gianluigi Buffon and Paulo Sousa amongst others, a first league title would still prove elusive for Parma. After a two-month winless streak at the start of the new millennium, the side did well to battle back to finish in a UEFA Cup qualifying spot
