The 2000-01 campaign was a season of significant upheaval and attacking brilliance for Chelsea. Though The Blues finished a respectable 6th in the Premier League and secured a UEFA Cup spot, the year was defined by the early sacking of manager Gianluca Vialli (despite winning the Charity Shield against Manchester United at the old Wembley) and the arrival of Claudio Ranieri. Leading the charge was the club's record signing, the explosive Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, whose 23 league goals earned him the Premier League Golden Boot and proved decisive in a partnership with Gianfranco Zola. It was a turbulent but exciting season that featured Hasselbaink's famous four-goal haul against Coventry City and the debut of future legend John Terry under the new Italian manager.
