The Columbus Blue Jackets enjoyed a historic and competitive inaugural season in 2000-01, officially bringing NHL hockey to Ohio and finishing with a respectable 71 points. Led by head coach Dave King, the team was anchored by veteran goaltender Ron Tugnutt’s 22 wins and offensive standout Geoff Sanderson, who recorded the franchise's first 30-goal season. While they finished fifth in the Central Division, the year was defined by the exciting emergence of a new franchise and a passionate fanbase that consistently filled Nationwide Arena.
