Notes

The 2000-01 campaign delivered a season of soaring hope but deep disappointment for Newcastle United, as The Magpies ultimately finished 11th in the Premier League. The year, which was meant to see club icon Alan Shearer lead the charge after his international retirement, was tragically derailed by a persistent knee injury that limited the captain's appearances. In his absence, the scoring burden fell to new signing Carl Cort and the dependable Nolberto Solano, who were joint top league scorers with 6 goals each in a campaign defined by a severe lack of attacking firepower. This frustrating year, under the guidance of Sir Bobby Robson, was one of missed opportunities, which saw a promising start fade and the team exit both major cup competitions early.
