Notes

The 2000-01 campaign was a dramatic, nerve-shredding season for Hellas Verona, with the Gialloblu ultimately securing a crucial 14th-place finish in Serie A after a spectacular late-season fight. The team, featuring emerging young talents like Adrian Mutu, Mauro Camoranesi, and a teenage Alberto Gilardino, slumped into a relegation dogfight but found their form in the spring with a thrilling 5-4 win against Bologna and a miraculous final-day victory against Perugia. Forward Emiliano Bonazzoli led the line with 7 goals in a campaign that was immortalized by Tim Parks' cult classic book, A Season with Verona, and culminated in a successful, nail-biting relegation tie-breaker against Reggina to secure their top-flight status.. The 2001-02 campaign delivered ultimate heartbreak for Hellas Verona as the Gialloblu spectacularly burnt out, finishing a crushing 15th in Serie A and suffering relegation on the final match day despite a squad brimming with emerging talent. Leading the charge was the clinical young forward Adrian Mutu, whose 12 goals were not enough to save the team's top-flight status. It was a turbulent year that marked the end of the club's Serie A stay, defined by their failure to capitalize on a strong start and the painful, unforgettable sight of rivals Chievo winning the first-ever top-flight Verona derby's return match.
