The 2001-02 campaign for Sheffield United, under the fiery guidance of manager Neil Warnock, delivered a disappointing 13th-place finish in the First Division, as inconsistent results and a struggle for attacking output derailed their push for the play-offs. Leading the line was Carl Asaba, whose 7 league goals topped the scoring charts for the season. Despite the mid-table finish, the year is immortalised by the infamous "Battle of Bramall Lane" against West Bromwich Albion in March 2002, which became the only professional English match ever abandoned due to a team having fewer than seven players, marking a bizarre and unforgettable chapter in the club's history.
