Notes

During the 2000s, the Pittsburgh Pirates transitioned into a new era with the opening of PNC Park in 2001, a venue frequently cited as one of the most beautiful ballparks in Major League Baseball. While the team faced competitive challenges throughout the decade, the era was defined by several standout individual performances and fan-favorite players. Brian Giles emerged as one of the game's elite power hitters early in the decade, while Jack Wilson provided spectacular defense at shortstop, earning an All-Star selection and a Silver Slugger Award in 2004. The decade also featured Freddy Sanchez winning the National League batting title in 2006, and the debut of future franchise icon Andrew McCutchen in 2009, which signaled the beginning of a promising new chapter for the organization.
