The 2001-02 campaign delivered a crucial survival for Messina as the Giallorossi clung onto their Serie B status, finishing 16th and successfully avoiding a swift relegation back to Serie C1. Leading the charge was the prolific forward Denis Godeas, whose 15 goals proved decisive in a demanding campaign built on grit and determination following their promotion. It was a tense year that marked the club's successful fight to remain in the second tier and remains a defining chapter in their recent history.
