The 2001-02 campaign was a turbulent and transitional one for Nottingham Forest as The Reds, under manager Paul Hart, slipped to a disappointing 16th-place finish in the First Division (2nd Tier). Spearheading the attack was the prolific Trinidadian forward Stern John, who notched 13 crucial league goals, including a memorable hat-trick in the thrilling 3-3 draw away against Millwall. However, the season was marred by the mid-season sale of highly-rated young midfielder Jermaine Jenas to Newcastle United and John's eventual move to Birmingham City in February 2002, marking a year of dashed ambitions and significant financial strain for the club.
