Notes

The 2001-02 campaign was a season of two distinct parts for Roda JC. Despite significant "domestic problems" that saw Koempels battle near the Eredivisie relegation zone, ultimately finishing 13th, the club produced an unforgettable, historic run in the UEFA Cup. Under manager Georges Leekens, they reached the Fourth Round (Round of 16) for the first time in their history, fueled by the prolific attack of Yannis Anastasiou, whose 10 Eredivisie goals were vital. Their giant-killing spirit was highlighted by a dramatic aggregate victory over Bordeaux, and their European dream ended heroically against a star-studded AC Milan side, losing 3-2 on penalties at the San Siro after a tense 1-1 aggregate draw. This run remains a proud and defining chapter of the club's modern history.
