Notes

The 2001-02 season was a landmark year for the Washington Wizards, defined by the historic return of Michael Jordan to the NBA. Under new head coach Doug Collins, the team showed remarkable progress by achieving a 37-45 record, which marked a significant 18-game improvement from the previous year and saw the Wizards finish second in the league in home attendance. Jordan led the team in scoring with 22.9 points per game and became the first player to score 50 points in three different decades, while rising star Richard Hamilton provided strong support by averaging 20 points per game. Despite narrowly missing the playoffs, the season revitalized the franchise and featured exciting stretches, including a nine-game winning streak in December. The 2002-03 Washington Wizards season was a historic landmark for the franchise, serving as the final chapter in the legendary career of Michael Jordan. Despite finishing with a 37-45 record, the team remained a premier attraction, leading the league in road attendance and finishing second in home attendance as fans flocked to witness Jordan's last run. The season was highlighted by the addition of All-Star Jerry Stackhouse, who led the team in scoring, and standout performances from Larry Hughes and Christian Laettner. Jordan himself defied age by playing in all 82 games and becoming the only 40-year-old in NBA history to score over 40 points in a game, providing a memorable conclusion to one of the greatest careers in sports history. Widely considered the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan concluded his legendary career with a two-season stint with the Washington Wizards, where he earned two All-Star selections and averaged over 20 points per game at ages 38 and 39.
