The United goalkeeper was sent off within the first 10 minutes for handling outside the area and they trailed 1-0 at the break. But after the restart manager Neil Warnock made two subs in the latter stages of the game, in which the both of them were sent off after a horrific two-footed challenge from Georges Santos and a headbutt from Patrick Suffo in the aftermath. Then being down to 8 men, two United players suffered injuries and the match was abandoned due to the Blades having used all of their substitutions.
