Notes

The 2002 Dallas Cowboys season was highlighted by a historic milestone as running back Emmitt Smith became the NFL's all-time leading rusher, surpassing Walter Payton's record. The team also saw the emergence of first-round pick Roy Williams, who provided a spark on defense, and celebrated safety Darren Woodson becoming the franchise's all-time leading tackler. Despite a 5-11 finish, the season featured notable wins over the Jaguars and Redskins, and the beginning of a record-breaking streak of 190 consecutive sold-out games. In Bill Parcells' first season as head coach, the 2003 Dallas Cowboys revitalized the franchise by finishing with a 10-6 record and securing their first winning season and playoff berth since the late 1990s. Bolstered by the league's top-ranked defense and the emergence of key rookies like Jason Witten and Terence Newman, the team achieved a memorable 5-1 start and a dramatic overtime victory against the Giants. Although their season ended in the Wild Card round, the year marked a significant turnaround and restored a sense of hope for the future. A second-round pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, Quincy Carter was a dual-threat quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets who threw for over 6,000 yards and led Dallas to the playoffs in 2003.
