Notes

The 2002-03 campaign for Messina was a tense battle for survival in Serie B as the Giallorossi finished a nervous 14th place, narrowly avoiding relegation for the second consecutive year. Leading the charge and providing the vital attacking spark was the prolific striker Riccardo Zampagna, whose crucial 18 goals anchored the side. It was a turbulent year for the club, managing to stay afloat in the league despite the season being overshadowed by the dramatic 'Caso Catania' controversy, which would ultimately lead to Serie B's expansion the following year and set the stage for Messina's own promotion push.
