Notes

The 2002-03 campaign delivered League Cup glory but an agonizing near-miss in the league for Liverpool as The Reds finished a tumultuous season in 5th place. Leading the charge was Michael Owen, whose 28 goals proved decisive in a campaign built on a spectacular 12-game unbeaten start and a tense, high-stakes League Cup Final victory over rivals Manchester United. It was a pivotal year that secured crucial silverware, thanks in part to a Man of the Match performance from Jerzy Dudek in the final, and remains a defining chapter in the club's modern history.. The 2003-04 campaign delivered a season of profound change and crucial resurgence for Liverpool, with The Reds finishing a hard-fought 4th in the Premier League to secure a vital return to the Champions League elite. This season marked the end of the Gérard Houllier era, who was replaced by Rafael Benítez. Spearheading the attack was the prolific Michael Owen, whose 16 league goals proved decisive in his final season at the club. The season is also immortalized by the moment local hero Steven Gerrard was handed the captain's armband, signaling the emergence of a new legendary era for The Reds.
