Notes

The Phoenix Suns enjoyed a revitalizing 2002-03 season, returning to the playoffs with a 44-38 record and finishing fourth in the Pacific Division. The campaign was highlighted by the sensational debut of Amar'e Stoudemire, who became the first player drafted out of high school to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award. Led by All-Star Stephon Marbury and the versatile Shawn Marion, the Suns showcased an exciting, up-tempo style of play and demonstrated their competitive grit by pushing the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs to six games in the first round of the playoffs. The 2003-04 Phoenix Suns season was a foundational year of transition that saw the emergence of a talented young core and the arrival of head coach Mike D'Antoni. Although the team finished with a 29-53 record, the season was highlighted by Joe Johnson leading the NBA in minutes played and Shawn Marion leading the league in steals. Strategic mid-season trades helped clear significant cap space, while the continued development of Amar'e Stoudemire and rookie Leandro Barbosa provided a bright outlook for the franchise's future. A four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA First Team selection, Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway was a versatile point guard who averaged 12.4 points and 5.3 assists during his five-season tenure with the Phoenix Suns.
