The 2003-04 campaign was a pivotal season that saw a young superstar emerge for Atlético Madrid, as Los Colchoneros finished a competitive 7th in La Liga and secured a spot in the Intertoto Cup. It was the year 19-year-old captain Fernando Torres, affectionately nicknamed 'El Niño', took a giant leap toward superstardom, firing in 19 crucial league goals to finish as the joint third-highest scorer in the division. Despite narrowly missing a UEFA Cup spot by just one point, the season was defined by the stunning brilliance of their homegrown legend and marked a crucial step in the club's resurgence.
