The 2003-04 campaign delivered a glorious return to silverware for Benfica, as Os Encarnados clinched the Taça de Portugal in a dramatic final against rivals Porto, ending a seven-year trophy drought. This emotional victory was dedicated to the tragically lost Miklós Fehér and capped a season where a final-day surge secured second place in the Primeira Liga. Leading the charge was the talismanic captain Simão Sabrosa, whose 12 league goals proved decisive in ushering in a new era at the newly opened Estádio da Luz.
