Notes

The 2003-04 campaign was a landmark season for Bolton Wanderers, with The Trotters, under the innovative management of Sam Allardyce, surging to a sensational 8th-place finish in the Premier League, their highest in decades, which secured a coveted UEFA Cup spot. The year was marked by a thrilling run to the League Cup Final, where they were unfortunately beaten 2-1 by Middlesbrough, a match in which the resurgent Kevin Davies scored the team's only goal. Davies, alongside the tenacious Kevin Nolan, led the league scoring with 9 goals each in a squad of cult heroes and international stars including Ivan Campo, Jay-Jay Okocha, and Youri Djorkaeff. This season cemented Bolton's status as a formidable and unique force in the top flight, defining the successful 'Big Sam' era.
