Notes

The 2003-04 campaign delivered a revolutionary and ambitious season for Chelsea, marking the dawn of the Roman Abramovich era and his unprecedented spending. The Blues, under Claudio Ranieri, surged to a spectacular 2nd-place finish in the Premier League, their highest in nearly 50 years, finishing only behind Arsenal's 'Invincibles', and dramatically reached their first-ever UEFA Champions League Semi-final. Leading the league scoring charge was the ever-reliable Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, whose 13 goals proved his enduring value, while the emerging star Frank Lampard cemented his status by being voted the club's Player of the Year. It was a pivotal, high-spending year that immediately established Chelsea as a domestic and European contender, fundamentally changing the club's trajectory.
