Notes

The 2003 Houston Texans season, their second in the NFL, was highlighted by a significant improvement in their win total and a thrilling season-opening victory over the undefeated-at-home Miami Dolphins. Under head coach Dom Capers, the team showcased the growth of young core players like quarterback David Carr and rookie wide receiver Andre Johnson, who recorded nearly 1,000 receiving yards. The season also featured standout performances from Pro Bowl defensive tackle Seth Payne and a resilient defense that secured notable wins against playoff contenders like the Carolina Panthers. The 2004 Houston Texans season was marked by a significant breakthrough, as the team finished with a franchise-best 7-9 record and avoided last place in the AFC South for the first time. Led by head coach Dom Capers, the season featured several milestones, including the team's first victory over the Tennessee Titans and a career-best performance from quarterback David Carr, who started all 16 games. Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson continued his emergence as an elite talent, helping the team achieve notable shutouts and road victories as they continued to build a winning foundation. The first overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft and a Super Bowl XLVI champion, David Carr was the inaugural quarterback for the Houston Texans who played 11 professional seasons and holds the NFL record for most times sacked in a single season.
