Jermaine Pennant was signed by Arsenal for £2 million at 15-years-old, after impressing at Notts County, which was a record transfer fee for a trainee at the time. Struggling to get game time in an Arsenal shirt, he was loaned out to Watford and Leeds, but the winger made his Premier League debut in between these loan spells in the 2002-03 season against Southampton. He scored a first-half hat-trick showing promising signs for his Gunners career, in what was actually the first game of Arsenal's 49-game unbeaten run.
