Notes

The 2004-05 campaign saw Borussia Dortmund, under the command of new manager Bert van Marwijk, secure a respectable 7th-place finish in the Bundesliga. Leading the charge was the towering Czech forward Jan Koller, whose 15 goals proved decisive in a season that secured a coveted place in the Intertoto Cup. Despite the new manager failing to turn fortunes around immediately, Die Schwarzgelben were only four points shy of Champions League qualification, giving a flash of hope and relying on a talented core including Tomáš Rosický and the defensive grit of Christian Wörns and Sebastian Kehl. It was a season of transition and consolidation that remains a key chapter in the club's modern history.
