The 2004-05 campaign for Paris Saint-Germain was a deeply turbulent season of soaring expectations that ultimately settled into mid-table disappointment. Manager Vahid Halilhodžić was eventually sacked in February 2005 after a major slump and a disappointing Champions League run where the club finished bottom of their group. New coach Laurent Fournier brought much-needed stability to guide the Parisians to a 9th-place finish in Ligue 1. Spearheading the attack throughout the turmoil was the prolific Pauleta, whose 14 league goals proved vital and cemented his status as the club's talisman in a year that remains a notable chapter of transition and struggle.
