Notes

The 2004-05 campaign saw VfL Wolfsburg establish themselves as early-season pace-setters, remarkably leading the Bundesliga table for several weeks before finishing in a respectable 9th place. Under the guidance of manager Erik Gerets, Die Wölfe secured a spot in the Intertoto Cup, driven by a potent attack featuring Thomas Brdarić and the creative brilliance of Martin Petrov, who both fired in 12 league goals. Highlighted by Petrov’s legendary four-goal masterclass against Mainz, the season remains a nostalgic chapter for fans, marking a period of high ambition and thrilling offensive football at the Volkswagen Arena.. The 2005-06 campaign delivered a nerve-wracking fight for survival for VfL Wolfsburg as Die Wölfe finished a precarious 15th in the Bundesliga, narrowly escaping relegation on the final day. Leading the charge was the clinical Argentine striker Diego Klimowicz, whose 12 league goals were vital in a season defined by defensive resilience and a high-stakes 2-2 draw against Kaiserslautern to secure their top-flight status. It was a turbulent year, marked by mid-season managerial change and the heroics of Cédric Makiadi, that remains a defining chapter of grit in the club's modern history.
