The 2005-06 campaign for Charlton Athletic was a dramatic season of two halves, which saw The Addicks secure a 13th-place finish in the Premier League. The team roared out of the gate under manager Alan Curbishley, briefly reaching second place in September, but a dramatic second-half slump saw them fall away from their European ambitions. Spearheading the attack was new signing Darren Bent, whose phenomenal 18 league goals, the highest tally for an Englishman in the Premier League that year, made him the club's Player of the Year. The season was ultimately defined by the emotional departure of iconic manager Alan Curbishley after 15 years at the helm and remains a bittersweet chapter that marked the end of an era for the club.
