The 2005-06 campaign delivered an historic, first-ever promotion for Colchester United as The U's, led by manager Phil Parkinson, finished a superb 2nd in League One, securing a coveted spot in the Championship. Spearheading the charge was the powerful striker Chris Iwelumo, whose 17 league goals proved decisive in a campaign built on sheer grit and a memorable 'big man/little man' partnership with Jamie Cureton. It was a standout year that also included a thrilling FA Cup run to the Fifth Round against Premier League champions Chelsea, culminating in a nervy 0-0 final-day draw at Yeovil Town that secured the club's highest-ever league status.
