The 2005-06 campaign delivered an historic, record-breaking season for Empoli as the Azzurri surged to their highest-ever finish, clinching a spectacular 8th place in Serie A. Spearheading the charge was the prolific forward Francesco "Ciccio" Tavano, whose career-best 19 league goals set a new club record for a single top-flight season. The campaign, which saw Mario Somma replaced by the experienced Luigi Cagni, was built on a club-record 13 wins, solidifying their status in the elite and marking a defining, memorable chapter in the Azzurri's modern history.
