The 2005-06 campaign was a season of vital consolidation and resurgence for 1. FC Nürnberg, with Der Club comfortably finishing 8th in the Bundesliga, their highest league placement in almost 40 years at the time. Spearheading the attack was the prolific Slovakian striker Róbert Vittek, whose crucial 16 league goals placed him among the league's top scorers. Under the astute guidance of manager Hans Meyer, whose tactical awareness was key, this season successfully established Nürnberg as a stronger, more stable force in German football and marked a defining step past previous struggles.
