Notes

The 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers achieved a historic milestone by winning Super Bowl XL, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 to secure the franchise's fifth championship. Despite a mid-season slump that left them at 7-5, the team rallied with eight consecutive victories, including three straight road playoff wins as the first-ever sixth seed to reach and win the Super Bowl. Led by head coach Bill Cowher, second-year quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, and Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward, the season served as a legendary "final ride" for Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis in his hometown of Detroit. The 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers season was highlighted by a resilient second-half surge, where the team finished with a strong 6-2 run to achieve an 8-8 record. In his final season, head coach Bill Cowher led a squad that featured standout individual performances, including running back Willie Parker’s impressive 1,494 rushing yards and the emergence of rookie wide receiver Santonio Holmes. The season concluded on a high note with a thrilling overtime victory against the Cincinnati Bengals, showcasing the team's competitive spirit until the very end. The 16th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, Troy Polamalu was a legendary safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers who earned eight Pro Bowl selections, the 2010 Defensive Player of the Year award, and two Super Bowl championships before his 2020 induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
