The 2006-07 campaign was a season of significant transition for Ipswich Town, as former player Jim Magilton took the managerial helm and steered The Tractor Boys to a respectable 14th-place finish in the Championship. Leading the charge was the powerful Irish striker Alan Lee, whose 16 league goals (17 in all competitions) proved decisive, highlighted by a memorable hat-trick in the 5-0 thrashing of Luton Town and the late goal at Elland Road that secured Leeds United's relegation. The team also enjoyed a strong run to the FA Cup Fifth Round and was anchored by the superb form of French midfielder Sylvain Legwinski, who won the Player of the Year awards. It was a pivotal year of rebuilding that laid the foundation for Magilton's era.
