The 2006-07 campaign was a season of consolidation for Motherwell as The Steelmen secured a 10th-place finish in the Scottish Premier League under manager Maurice Malpas. Leading the charge was the prolific Australian striker Scott McDonald, whose 15 league goals proved vital for the club. The season is famously remembered for McDonald scoring the 5000th goal in SPL history and for the striker earning the BBC Sportsound Player of the Year award before his eventual move to rivals Celtic.
