The 2006-07 campaign delivered an historic, nail-biting title for PSV as The Boeren, under manager Ronald Koeman, dramatically clinched their 20th Eredivisie trophy on the final day, triumphing over rivals Ajax solely on superior goal difference. Leading the line was the electrifying Peruvian winger Jefferson Farfán, whose 21 league goals were crucial in a campaign that saw an 11-point lead spectacularly disappear before a final-day 5-1 victory secured the championship. The memorable season was compounded by a strong run to the UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals, which included an aggregate victory over Arsenal.
